Franconia Methodis Church, All Saints, COTS and Olivet are offering volunteer opportunities for the Summer Blessing Program

The Olivet Church began the Summer Blessing Program in 2015. This program offers grocery staples and fresh fruit and vegetables each week during summer break to some of the families of Franconia Elementary School students. Students that receive Blessings in a Backpack get a bag of six food items such as soup, oatmeal, snack bars, etc. on Friday during the school year.
Seven families with approximately 20-25 children have participated in this program every summer. In preparation for summer break 2020, Olivet has begun collecting the non-perishable food items listed below:
  • Feb: cereal, rice, dry beans (including chickpeas & lentils)
  • March: snack bars, mac & cheese
  • April: canned tuna or chicken
  • May: pasta & pasta sauce (no pork)
  • June: juice (100% kind), cereal, rice, dry beans
Koinonia's food bank receives all food items leftover at the end of the summer break. Cash donations help purchase needed food items when supplies run out.
Other opportunities to volunteer to help with Summer Blessings include signing up to distribute grocery bags (Monday, July 20th through Monday, August 24th) or purchasing fresh fruits or fresh vegetables for one of those Mondays.
*Olivet is planning an information night to encourage churches surrounding Groveton, Lane, and Hayfield Elementary schools to begin summer food programs. Let's work together to ensure families and children receive our support over the summer break.
