Olivet Episcopal Church Announces a New Rector

The Vestry is pleased to announce that the Rev. J. Michael Cadaret has accepted a call to become Olivet’s next Rector. Rev. Cadaret is a graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary and was ordained in the Diocese of Virginia in 2003. He has served in large and small parishes throughout his 13 years of ordained ministry. Currently he is completing his ministry as the Interim Rector for two “yoked” parishes in the Diocese of Virginia - Beckford Parish, St. Andrew’s Church in Mt. Jackson and Emmanuel Church in Woodstock. Prior to that, for over five years he served as Assistant to the Rector at Grace & Holy Trinity Church in Richmond, overseeing several ministries, including Outreach and Christian Education. Prior to seminary, Rev. Cadaret was a chef for 17 years. (I hope he is not disappointed by our potlucks.)
After a long process of vetting several excellent candidates and prayerful discernment, the Search Committee believed that Rev. Cadaret was the best fit to serve as Olivet’s next Rector and recommended him to the Vestry. After meeting with Rev. Cadaret, the Vestry unanimously agreed. His first Sunday with us will be September 24th.
We recognized the Search Committee for their dedicated work during the combined service at the end of July. But if you have not been a part of a Search Committee it is hard to appreciate all of the hours that are consumed by the search process. A big thank you from the Vestry to Eric Whipkey (Search Committee Chair), Megan Arleth, Rebecca Hastings, Susan Press, Mary Evelyn Smith, Jeff Underwood and Valerie Walton. Please take time to thank each of them and I am sure that they will be happy to share with you what the experience meant to them.
The transition to a new Rector is an exciting time for Olivet, but it also brings sadness in having to say good-bye to Jeanie, who has faithfully served Olivet as Interim for over four years. The last four years has been an important transition time for Olivet and Jeanie has helped lead us through a lot of challenges, positioning us well for the future. Her’ last Sunday with us will be September 10th. This gives us an opportunity to thank her for her ministry. Between now and her last Sunday, please take time to individually thank Jeanie for her ministry. We will also be thanking her together. The Vestry is planning a parish-wide cookout for late afternoon on Saturday, September 9th . More details will be forthcoming shortly, but please mark the date on your calendars! We are hoping for a good turnout.
