Serving our community with a glad heart

Serve the Lord with gladness. - Psalm 100:2

6/16/2019 – 2/23/2020

Please contact Ann Caulkins (acaulkins75@gmail.com) for interest in any of the outreach opportunities below:

Approximately, 5 years ago, Olivet expanded the Blessings in a Backpack program to cover summer break at Franconia Elementary School because of concern that the students who benefit from supplemental food during the school year would not be getting additional nutrition when school was closed.  Olivet has partnered with Franconia United Methodist Church in this project, each taking 5 weeks of the typical summer break.

Olivet is in process of collecting non-perishable food donations in anticipation of serving registered students, July 22 through August19.  During those weeks, Olivet will also collect donations of fresh fruits and vegetables to add to the grocery bags.

In addition to donations of non-perishable food, fresh fruits/veggies, and cash to purchase needed food, Olivet requires volunteers to help with packing bags and distributing food (Mondays, 5:30-6:30 pm).

  • on-going donations of food/hygiene items, diapers, etc., for their food pantry
  • donations for August Angels program (backpacks and school supplies)

Olivet has a new outreach opportunity to distribute food to seniors on the third Monday of each month, beginning August 19.  The meals are picked up and delivered at Morris Glen located next to Manchester Lakes Shopping Center. Total time involved is approximately an hour.

Anyone interested in getting onto the delivery schedule must complete an orientation and background check by Fairfax County.

Valerie Carney is coordinating this effort, and you can be in touch with her at valerielcarney@aol.com. For more information, you can also visit https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/familyservices/older-adults/fairfax-area-meals-on-wheels.

  • Thanksgiving Baskets (Koinonia) - Olivet has typically signed up for 6-8 baskets - we can do more, if there is more interest.
  • Christmas Stockings for Rising Hope Shelter -  Olivet will provide 40 stockings (20 each for boys and girls).  Financial donations are needed most.  Any other donations of stocking fillers should be coordinated with Diane.
  • Christmas Wishes for Koinonia - Olivet will once again collect gift cards and gifts that will be donated to Koinonia for their "store" for parents

Rising Hope Shelter would like to have "hygiene" bags to distribute to homeless individuals (items such as sample size soap, shampoo, lotion, toothbrushes/toothpaste, snack bars, etc.) would go into a zip lock bag which can then be easily given out to those in need.

If you'd like to help with that project, please contact Ann Caulkins (acaulkins75@gmail.com).
